Occasionally some patients require inter-hospital transfer. This may be for various reasons, for example: St Vincent's Hospital Toowoomba has no beds available, admitting Doctor may recommend a different hospital/location for treatment of your presentation.

The newly developed St Vincent's Emergency Department, located in the Clive Berghofer Wing, entrance via Curzon or Herries Street, opened in November 2020, has new, up-to-date facilities including:

3 Resuscitation rooms
Suture room
Plaster room
Designated ENT room
6 Acute bed cubicles
5 Fast track cubicles
1 Negative pressure/Isolation room
2 Private Triage Rooms

Who can visit the Private Emergency

Anyone can visit the St Vincent's Private Emergency Department:

Adults and paediatrics
DVA
Workers Compensation Cover
Sports Injuries
Overseas visitors

W e accept referrals from GP's and other medical specialists. You can also self refer for treatment.

What is M.A.P.U

M.A.P.U -Medical admission planning unit

The MAPU is a four, single bed, ensuited unit within the Emergency Department, for patients requiring admission for up to and including 72 hours. Doctors within the Emergency Department will be the admitting Doctor and where necessary other medical specialists will be referred to the patient for consultation.

Visitors of Patients in the Emergency Department

In emergency situations, visitors may not be allowed into the emergency rooms unless it is a parent/guardian, next of kin or carer.

Parking

There is limited delegated emergency department carparks. A paid parking area is available to all visitors to the emergency and hospital.

Cafe

There is an on site cafe, Pulse, which operates 7 days a week from 9am.

When coming to the Private Emergency

TPEC understands that in some emergency situations, bringing the necessary items can be difficult. When possible, it is advised that you bring the following to the Emergency Department:

Medicare Card
Private Health Insurance Card
Pension Card (if relevant)
Healthcare Card (if relevant)
DVA Card (if relevant)
Correspondence from GP or other Health Care Professional which maybe relevant
Current medications
